It is an unconventional approach to have a child in the position of dealing out advice, but in “Kid President's Pep Talk to Teachers and Students,” Robby Novak does just that. In this viral pep talk video, Novak addresses the need for more people to “wake up” and make a change in the world. He makes it his responsibility to be the voice that could initiate a change for the better. Under the alias “Kid President,” this nine year old boy uses his credibility, logical appeals, and emotional connections to encourage students and teachers to strive to their full potential, and take more responsibility for their educations. He visualizes a change being made in the world and predicts it becoming “awesome.” Kid President may be small, but his vision is monumental. Before listening to Novak’s speech, he has already earned a level of credibility based on his alias and also his appearance. Even the decision to locate Novak’s pep talk on a college campus portrays him as more trustworthy. The most noticeable indication of credibility that Kid President has is his attire; throughout his speech Novak is wearing a suit. In doing this he has conveyed that he cares enough about his message to dress up for it. He references Einstein and Confucius as some of the world’s greatest speakers and teachers. He also uses them as an example when he introduces the idea that, “Someone is learning from you.” Numerous people have learned from Einstein and Confucius. Therefore, numerous people can learn from anyone. Novak wants to remind others that the actions of one person are on display for everyone.
