“A Good Man Is Hard to Find” demonstrates the theme of good versus evil throughout the entire story. The author leaves the readers intrigued and expecting good to overcome evil but evil prevails. In the story, the grandmother is a symbol of good while the Misfit is a symbol of evil. Flannery O’Conner uses many literary devices throughout the story “A Good Man Is Hard to Find”. In “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” O’Connor uses conflicts, imagery, and foreshadowing to create a peculiar plot. This family is not like any other typical family in most stories. Usually families respect the elders in their family but the family in “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” does not. This story of a family’s trip to Florida resembles the stories of other journeys in life. If the grandmother would have realized that the house they were going to look at was not in Georgia but Tennessee. The grandmother has not caused any problem this far, even though the rest of the family members believe she has. I believe that the wreck was the grandmother’s fault because she brought the cat that jumped on her son’s lap and she took the family down a road that was going to lead them nowhere.
