3.12 Justification for using interviews
The response rate in a personal interview was higher than in any other method. The other advantage is that it allowed the interviewer to have full control of the data collection process. Another important aspect of the personal interviews is that it allowed the researcher a chance to explain unclear questions.
The interview method, however posed two difficulties. Firstly, the researcher did not have any interviewing skills. Secondly, it was difficult to record the data. A tape recorder could have been appropriate but it was not available. The interviewer had to rely on a very good memory and recorded the main points only.
One major problem encountered was that interviews were costly. The researcher had
