In spite of the fact that Nic and Katie are having success with Native Hill farm, it is not always the case with many farmers across the country. Near the end of the tour, Nic gave a ten minute speech about “generational farming” and the domino-effect it can have throughout the entire country once, and if it takes off. Generational farming refers to the average age of a farmer (65 years old) and how there is a huge gap of young individuals who do not want to become farmers. Consequently, this can have a serious effect on the future of the food system if people do not step up.
