There are many iconic figures that have taken the title of creator, but two of the most symbolic figures are Zeus and God. Both have watched over their people from above, one from the skies above, while the other sat on top of mount Olympus. One ruled through fear and another one ruled with hope. This essay will take a look at both men and compare them to one another and see if there are any similarities these two legendary Gods have.
Zeus was the first of the gods and a very imposing figure. Often referred to as the “Father of Gods and men”, he is a sky god who controls lightning (often using it as a weapon) and thunder. Once Zeus took control he sat atop of his golden throne which was place in Mount Olympus and he was revered by everyone. For decades men who were just mortal kings would use his name to say there were descendants. Because of his great power a number of roles and responsibilities were to come. Hesiod described Zeus as a god who “brought peace in place of violence” and referred to him as the “lord of justice“. Though he is most well known as god of the sky and thunder, Zeus was the supreme cultural embodiment of Greek religious beliefs. During these times the lands were ruled by Herod the Great and much like Kronos he too also feared the birth of a child that would one day destroy him. A man that went by the name of Joseph was warned a head of time by an angel that Herod intended for all the children under the age of two to be killed, so Jesus was kept in Egypt until Herod death.
