Year round schooling has become an important debate in america’s school system. There are many factors, including location and student population, that could greatly influence whether or not to implement this system (Huebner). Despite this obstacle, year-round schools have shown to improve the overall learning system, and better accommodate for the needs of the students. Based on the major advantages to students involved, year round school is the better option for most students. Nothing is more frustrating for a student than the first week of school, and relearning everything all over again. Its why the first portion of every school year, and some textbooks, are often review. Studies have shown that students can lose up to 27 percent of what they may have learned over the summer months (Lynch), and of these, mostly concrete knowledge is lost over conceptual information. (Huebner) According to the National Association for Year-Round Education (NAYRE), year round school moves to redistribute this break throughout the year, with a maximum of thirty days off at a time. Depending on a number of factors, over 34,000 students- about nine percent of all third through eighth graders- are put in summer schools. (Green) To alleviate this, year-round schooling can be formatted in two ways- single track and multitrack. By setting a multitrack system, different students attend school during different periods of time throughout the year. By doing this, students of different tracks’ days off overlap days on. By implementing this system, students can get help whenever they need all year long as there will always be teachers on campus. This would effectively replace summer school for the students involved by redistributing it throughout the school year
