President Woodrow Wilson's 14 Points (1918)
The fourteen points are points of peace that Woodrow Wilson wanted the world seize. He gave the speech on January 8, 1918. And it was basically trying to sell the war to the American public. A lot of people didn’t want to go to war and so does Woodrow Wilson when he was running for his second term. But because of Unrestricted Submarine Warfare, the Bolshevik Revolution, and the Zimmerman telegram, there are all of those reasons that the United States was going to war. Woodrow Wilson wanted to make sure that if we’re going to war, then we are going for a good reason which is a plan for peace at the end of the war which is the Fourteen Points. The Fourteen Points were also a sale to the Germans basically…show more content… In his speech, he said “Open covenants, openly arrived at” and “diplomacy shall proceed always frankly in the public’s view.” Most of the people thought that the main sparks that triggered World War 1 were bilateral secret treaties that tied counters together and the mass development of war weapons. Wilson believed that including this point would prevent future world wars from taking place since there would not be mass weapons productions and secret treaties that would involve another country into a country that’s at war, and if there were treaties of negotiations then it should be done in…show more content… And so the treaty of Versailles was seen as a failure for those kinds of reasons. There was a large gap between the promise of the Fourteen Points which the Germans knew about and the resulting treaty of Versailles, where the Germans weren’t even allowed to be in the room where the treaty was made to help soften their punishments and have a voice in it. So basically the conclusion is going to be that the failure of the Fourteen Points to fully make it into the treaty of Versailles is going to be one of the very big reason for the rise of Nazism and national socialism in Germany blaming not just the Jews, but the treaty of Versailles on Germany’s revenge on the world, and that’s going to bring Adolf Hitler into
