Bridesmaids(2011) is a romantic comedy directed by Paul Feig. Annie(Kristen Wiig)the main character is chosen to be the maid of honor for her best friend Lillian’s (Maya Rudolph)wedding. Annie’s life has fallen apart and she has to handle getting her life back together while being the maid of honor.In one particular scene Annie brings the bridesmaids out for lunch to a run down Brazilian restaurant. Helen(Rose Byrne) one of the other bridesmaids is high falutin , she is disgusted with the restaurant choice and wishes to go elsewhere. The other bridesmaids agree to go in and quickly start to order all different kinds of food. While the bridesmaids are eating their large meals they notice Helen is eating a petite salad. Through the medium shot you can see all the woman’s attention go to Helen and the intrigued facial expressions they have. Feig then applies a close up on Megan(Melissa McCarthy) as she explains she never feels bloated. The close up point of view puts the spotlight on Megan the camera zooms out and you can see the bridesmaids sarcastically shaking their heads. The actresses eye’s act as vectors where the viewer should pay attention to. Their eyes are focused on Helen when she is talking and this makes the viewer look at Helen. Then their eyes look at Megan and your attention goes toward her. The scenes deeper message portrays how women should act and the gender roles associated with being a woman. Helen in the scene is put in the spotlight in the medium shot when all of the other women are staring at her. Her decision to care about her weight is something that the other bridesmaids wish they cared about.The other bridesmaids put Helen on a pedestal for wanting to have a smaller dress size.
