Every day, all the people you encounter have dreams. Whether they are strangers or friends, everyone has aspirations for their life. They may be small ambitions or huge life changing goals. Either way, dreams are an essential part of life. Dreams can bring people happiness or sorrow, but having a dream can bring hope. Having a life goal is very beneficial to all people because it creates something to work towards. In the novel, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck many characters have dreams for the future like George, Lennie, and Crooks. These aspirations help them to keep pushing forward in their jobs and daily lives. This dream of someday buying a house with George and tending to the rabbits gives him hope for the future. However, Lennie’s dream was not originally his to start with. It was given to him by George who was the creator of the dream. The dream was brought up many times throughout the novel showing its importance to the story. Lennie’s dream was mentioned early on in the novel, “Go on, George! Tell about what we’re gonna have in the garden and about the rabbits in the cages and about the rain in the winter and the stove, and how thick the cream is on the milk like you can hardly cut it. Tell about that George” (14). This establishes his hopes right away. By Lennie saying this, it signifies how important this goal is to him because he normally has challenges when it comes to remembering things, but he can remember every detail about the dream George tells him. This is also very important because it shows how excited Lennie gets when he hears about his dream, and he almost treats it like his favorite story that he wants George to read to him. Lennie’s dream helped keep him calm at certain times and also helped motivate him to work that much
