What Everyone Deserves In The Three Musketeers written by Alexandre Dumas four of the characters, d’Artagnan, Aramis, Porthos, and Athos were united by one upstanding goal: to guard and protect the King of England. Each possessed very different personality traits, and some were even secular, however, the four characters and M. de Treville, The King of England, each exemplified honesty or integrity in unique situations. “All for one and one for all!” The chant of the Musketeers and d’Artagnan exemplifies their honesty and integrity toward the sole cause of protecting the king. A great picture of honesty is in chapter five when d’Artagnan and Athos are interrupted by the Cardinals’ guards. They got into a skirmish, and he did not wait an instance; he showed his truthfulness towards the cause of protecting King Treville. In return, the novel showed M. de Treville’s honesty towards d’Artagnan. Later in chapter twenty-five when the young man is attending to the queen’s needs and delivering her letter for her, he asked M. de Treville his opinion on the whole affair. M. de Treville was able to foresee the situation and give d’Artagnan some wisdom with the queen’s thoughts. He insisted that d’Artagnan take the three fellow musketeers with him, so that if he does not make it with the letter, one of the others would. M. The book displayed a picture of how amidst the struggles of the five friends, they remained committed to a strong loyal friendship. It was comparable to a band of brothers in the army. They would not leave a man behind. There were moments in their journeys where they momentarily became distracted by things that were less important than their fellow musketeers. “All for one and one for all!” When d’Artagnan delivers the letter to the Duke of Buckingham, he was the only one to physically make it to Paris. The others were left behind fighting for their brother, all for one! Soon after d’Artagnan has accomplished the mission, he returned to find each of his fellow musketeers.
