ARRAS, FRANCE – After three days of intense battle, it was a bitter/sweet triumph for Canadian soldiers at Vimy Ridge. Attacking together for the first time, all four Canadian divisions captured Vimy Ridge on April 9, 1917. Their well devised plans and relentless efforts paid off. Canada is now seen as a nation. (It was the beginning of Canada as a nationhood.)
The vital goal of the Canadian soldiers at the battle of Vimy was to break through the impassable German lines. The Canadian troops were given this responsibility. This task seemed an impossible one.
