The state of Uttar Pradesh is not famous only in India but all over the world for its rich heritage as well as for its intricate forms of art and craft which are inspired and are being practiced through ages. Different region have their specific art or craft. Varanasi: Silk saris Mirzapur and Bhadoi: Carpets Agra and Kanpur: Leather craft Moradabad: Metal ware Lucknow: Chikankari and other embroideries. The tradition of painting in Uttar Pradesh goes back to pre-historic times. Examples of cave paintings can be seen in the caves of Sonbhadra and Chitrakoot. Those paintings have scenes of hunting, festivals, dances, animals and day to day life. The golden period of painting in UP was the Mughal Era. The art of painting attained its peak during the reign of Jahangir. The art of painting attained perfection in the area of Bundelkhand. The gold thread with the silver background defines the grandeur and the geometric patterns enhance its beauty. Motifs of these brocades are very intricate mostly floral. The designs of the motifs vary according to the durability of cloth. Stonecraft Agra is the home of stone craft work and its supreme example of which is Taj Mahal. It is a difficult craft. The other marble products available in Agra are mirror frames, bowls, garden furniture, etc. One another specialty of Agra is its inlay work on marble with colorful and precious stones to form a floral mosaic like slabs. Carpets Indian carpets are mainly prepared in Bhadoi, Shahjahanpur and Mirzapur. They are adorn with exotic designs of flora and fauna, Taj Mahal, "Kethariwala Jal", "Jamabaz", "Kandhari", etc. This industry has succeeded in attracting not only the national market but international market as well.
