Olivia McGee December 18, 2015 Period 4 Mrs. Dowling Not A Thug Tupac Shakur was known as a rapper. He was put under the stereotype of an unintelligent, gang affiliated, African American criminal. Many people did not take the time to understand his views on the world and just saw the surface of Tupac. Tupac was more of a poet. He wrote music that people could relate to. His music was not all about issues in America, he also wrote about hope for a better place. Tupac was the most influential person of the 90’s for people who had to live the “Thug Life” because he grew up living in the same environment as regular people, he had to work hard for his fame,his music was relatable for numerous people. But Tupac explains that he references “Thug Life” as a not so easy life. “The life of turning nothing into something”(Tupac Resurrection). That some people had to work for everything they had and the stuff they worked for, they gave twenty-two percent to the government. The same government that put their neighbors, family, and friends in jail, and the other people who had to kill because they were never taught how to survive in america. This was the only way they knew how to survive. The fathers who had to sell drugs to make money so they can put food on the table. Tupac was around these environments his whole life. Tupac came from not having much to being one of the most popular people in America. The only way he could have done this was through hard work and dedication. Criminals do not become the most influential individuals in America. Tupac spent long hours in the sudio making great songs for people to feel influenced to do great things.
