Early life and background – Tokugwa Ieyasu was born in 1542 in Okazaki, Japan. He was the lord’s son of the area of Mikawa. At the season of Ieyasu’s birth Japan was shook with civil wars with fierce fights between territorial lords which had gone for almost a century. When he was four Ieyasu was sent as a hostage to secure cooperation between his faction and the neighboring Imagawa tribe. He was raised at their court and given the education for a nobleman. Family origins – Tokugawa was the range’s name from which Ieyasu’s family originated. His father was the lord of the province of Mikawa. The Tokugawa clan was a dominant family of Japan.
