Ice skating is an art that has made its way into the world and has left its mark on the world. In the 1920s Olympics an American woman left her mark and proved to be the Queen of the ice, her name is Theresa Weld Blanchard.
Theresa Weld was born in August 21, 1893 in Boston Massachusetts. She started in a skating club in Boston which was named the Skating Club of Boston.
In 1914 and in 1920 she claimed the U.S. women’s title, but she didn’t stop there. Theresa went on to winning the U.S. pairs championship in 1918 and 1920.
It was not easy skating in the 1920s. The reason being that many of the women where frowned upon. Some people still thought that the female skaters where un-lady like for the way they skated on the ice.
Theresa would continue to win 6 more U.S. titles, but would never go to compete in the World Championships. Theresa might not have competed in the World Championships but she would go to compete in the Winter Olympics. In the Winter Olympics of 1920 she was the first American woman to win the Bronze medal.
