The two stories that I will compare and contrast are titled “A Worn Path” by Eudora Welty, and “The Welcome Table” by Alice Walker. Do both these stories share the same theme, and what message is the author’s trying to portray to its readers? Within both these short stories, the author revealed the thoughts and activities of the main characters. The point of view enables us as reader to receive detailed insight of phoenix’s and the old woman’s journey. We were able to enter their minds and hear their thoughts throughout the entire short story. I chose both these short stories because in my opinion they share the same themes of redemption, love, racial prejudice, but more than that there is a message of aspiration and perseverance, and fortitude in the face of adversity. Both main characters represent strong women, and despite all of their challenges, they still retain hope that the world will become a better place.…show more content… This story represents a great aspect of religion, and having faith and hope in times of despair. Upon arrival at this church, she is rejected by its congregation and is then thrown out from a place which she opted to find consolation and warmth. Within this story she is called aunty and grandma by the usher and the pastor, which may symbolize that outside of the church there is a relationship between these three characters. However, she meets Jesus and they embark on a journey
