In the city of Airstrip 1 (a city in the fictional country Oceania) ignorance of the party’s ways gives it’s people the strength to live normally. In Airstrip 1 (formerly London) every citizen is constantly under surveillance and exposed to propaganda. Citizens can be swept up by task forces for reprogramming for any negativity towards the party. The party teaches their citizens loyalty to the government before all else, including family. Ignorance is strength in Airstrip 1. It is easy to look past the wrongdoings of the party when there is constant propaganda, no knowledge of better systems, and an incentive not to fight back on any scale because of surveillance.
