Maxwell, the lead guard came prowling out of the woods, the shadows of the forest clung to him. He towered above the other soldiers that followed. As he slid his hood down, his hidden features pulled from the darkness. The black ringlets that tumbled out, haloed his otherwise grim face. A large Nekhawk had been following behind him, it landed on his wrist as he held it out. Its long yellow talons wrapped around Maxwells wrist. Its feathers had a metallic sheen, they were that of a bleak lackluster black. Where a bird's head should have been, a gray squid face of tentacles withered about, with a long silver beak in the middle of this mass. On the side of the squid face was its eyes, they focused now on her. The Nekhawk leaned forward, with its tentacles squiggling near her face. It opened its beak.…show more content…
She cursed at herself. Parcival held the sword flat side out above Jasons head. "Then I guess you don't care about this man, do you?" His sword swung in an arc. Maxwell loosened his grip, but still held on to her. "I see, we are at an impasse." Merryn grabbed a lung-full of air, she grabbed his hand and sunk her teeth into his palm. He dropped her and hissed in pain. He let out a string of curses, before tuning a hate filled glare at her. She scrambled over to Parcival before he could grab her again. And placed her hands on her knees, dragging in the fresh air to her sore lungs. Jason was in front of Parcival, he was encased in a skintight crystal tomb. A look of shock had been frozen on his face. A spark of pity for the man floated up, but it fizzled down to regret. Strange, disdain, anger, or loathing would seem more accurate. Something about the man, reminded her ... but of what? That too flitted away. All she cared about now was getting away from Maxwell. She peeked a look at Parcival. You don't know what you're getting into. As she fought against a dizzy spell, and her line of thought became lost. "Head back into the forest, now." He
