When you have your mind set on something it is all you can think about and for some people that goal is a little more than getting better grades for instance, Cap's goal was to when his friend and work partner Sam, had died he would cremate him so that Sam would not die with a cold soul. With Walt or and other wards known as "The King of Mazy May" was determined to get his neighbor so his claim would not be stolen from claim jumpers. Bilbo was at first dubious about helping the dwarfs but he knew the choice he were to make in the end would affect every one so he did what was right and went on the mission to increase the possibility of things going right and so he went. based on these characters the thing that drives a person to undertake a mission is not only to help themselves but to help others.
