Tennyson’s use of color symbolism enhances the emotions felt throughout the poem. With the use of color, Tennyson communicates the emotions felt in the story subconsciously. The initial description of “The Island of Shalott” is “where the lilies grow” and has “colors gay” conveying a whimsical mood. But as the plot progresses, Tennyson begins to refer to “the blue unclouded weather” as well as describing Lancelot as “Some bearded meteor, trailing light”, which heightens the intensity of the mood. However, soon after The Lady of Shalott “look’d down to Camelot” there is a turn of events.
