After Jamaica abolish slavery we have an evolution that the European and settlers did not expected. After the end of slavery, the Europeans thought the Africans and Caribbean people were still inferior and could not last without them. In the Book “Banana Bottom”, you have a young girl by the name of Tabitha who had the opportunity to receive an education in Europe. While over in Europe she learned a lot about the world, and when she came back she could not believe how much she really did not know her own people. One of the problems people the book portrayed was inequality of race. The book displayed numerous times where people made a decision or an opinion about someone because of how dark the skin tone of another person. The world and life of the high manned Europeans who does everything by the books. Making every meeting formal and keeping themselves to a high standard over the rest of the world. Then the world of the blacks were that was simply and informal, but were hard working people that believed in God. Hoping for a way out of struggling. Seeing the problems throughout the area of racial tense between blacks and protocol of handling themselves in public. Befriending those in your own class, acting as if the peasants do not existence, and being superior to them. See saw how they are expressed by the whites, but in real life are amazing people when she is actually with them. The separation of one race because of the different skin tones caused many problems. It was not those people fault for what happen, but it is what became their life. They lived to one day break it, marrying someone they loved, rather than because their skin matched.
