We all live on planet earth, which is the only place known to have an atmosphere, where air and water are two basic things that sustain life. Deprived of air and water the earth would be like the other planets – no man, animals, plants or species would last. The environment in which living beings have their sustenance has oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, argon and water vapor. All these are well balanced to ensure and support a healthy growth of life in the animal world. This equilibrium does not only help the life-cycles of animals and plants, but it also creates the lasting sources of minerals and energies without which the human evolution of to-day could not be built. And, it is here that man first began losing control and became convict of his own creations. Man is going to conquer the Universe with the help of technological development. But this development is resulting in grave danger to the existence of a man itself. Continuous efforts are being taken for providing more sophisticated automation for better future. This transformation is leading the mankind towards increase in industrialization. Centuries before environmental pollution has existed for, but only started to be significant following the industrial revolution in the 19th century. Pollution arises when the natural biosphere cannot destroy an element without creating harm or loss to itself. The elements involved are not created by nature, and the destroying process can vary from a time period of few days to thousands of years. More or less all of our gains in the fields of industrial development, science and technology had so far been realized at the cost of our health. Even our flora and fauna were found to be endangered with extinction. All this really leaves us speculating if all our achievements and industrial advancement really help us climb the peaks of prosperity or merely take us down the blind alleys of adversity. The question is being raised not only in India, but all over the world including Europe and U.S.A. – that whether all is well with our industrial growth and progress in the field of science and technology. Many campaigners against environmental pollution are strongly protesting against the indiscriminate violations committed day-to-day in the name of development.
