Madagascar Antananarivo, Madagascar is an Island located in the Indian Ocean, and known as “The Great Red Island.” Madagascar was discovered August 10, in the 1500’s . Its history is clear by the early isolation of the landmass ancient supercontinents containing Africa and India, as well as the island’s late colonization by a human settler arriving at the outrigger canoes from the Sunda Islands between 200 BC and 500 AD. Antananarivo is the capital of the Republic of Madagascar. It is located on a high plateau, overlooking the Ikopa and Besiboka Rivers. This island has three of the highest summits with rivers and headwaters above 2000m. It also has rivers and streams with headwaters on high lands, as well as major mivers including; Mangoro, Maningory, Mananara, Ivandro, and Mananjary. Two groups, the Antalaotra in the northwest and the Antaimoro, or Arab-Malagasy of the southeast, have adopted Muslim practices. Their clothing is also very different from america, their everyday clothes are usually something like a lamba, a wraparound sheet usually with printed with designs showing everyday activities, straw hats. However not all people wear this. some people dress somewhat similar to americans, there is a huge demand for trainers, jeans, and leather jackets. The currency in Madagascar is also different from America. The currency used in Madagascar is called Malagasy Ariary. 1 Malagasy Ariary is equal 0.00031 of a US Dollar. 100 US Dollars is equal to 319565.00 Malagasy Ariary and 1000 US Dollars is equal to 3195650.00 Malagasy Ariary. If I could visit a place in Madagascar, it would have to be Ile Sainte Marie, a beach off the coast of east madagascar, the beautiful view, the white sand, and clear blue water is the reason I chose this place and what makes this place so special to
