• Nick Carraway, author and narrator of the Great Gatsby, tells the reader about how his judgmental views are kept to himself due to his dad always telling him about that. He usually has a comment about someone but when talking about Jay, he only has a yearning to become the Great Gatsby. • Nick starts off by arriving in New York to receive his job in the bond business in West Egg. This place has many rich people who only live to get super wealthy very fast. This is a contrast to East Egg where people maintain their wealth and have received it through heritage or jobs. Upon arrival of the apartment, a couple from downstairs, the McKee´s, join the three in their party like behaviors. As they drink more and more, Myrtle begins to bring up Daisy. Tom warns her, but as she continues to wail her name he proceeds to punch her in the face and break her nose. Chapter 3 • The reader quickly finds out in this chapter that Gatsby is so famous because of the parties he throws. Everyone wishes to be invited, and luckily Nick is invited. He feels out of place when arriving, seeing drugs and tons of euphoric people. When Nick meets Gatsby, he realizes they were in the same military group. • Nick meets Owl Eyes when he and Jordan are roaming the party. He later is found in a ditch trying to get his car out. Nick then goes on to talk about his life and how he and Jordan begin dating because of Tom and Daisy’s constant pressure. Chapter 4 • Nick and Gatsby go to meet up with Wolfshiem, Gatsby’s partner, and on the way talk about Jay’s past. He graduated from Oxford, mined jewels in Europe, and got war medals.
