In the late 1800’s many women did not have rights. A woman's job back in the day was to be a housewife. Women were not even allowed to have their own jobs,a steady income,a right to vote and they were married off at a young age. Now in the Twenty-First century women today are still held to that standard. Many men feel like women are only capable of staying in the house cleaning,taking care of the kids and making sure the table is set. In our society there's still a such thing as “The Glass Ceiling Effect”. Glass Ceiling is defined as an upper limit to professional advancement,especially as imposed upon women,that is really not perceived or openly acknowledge (dictionary.com). Even though The Bible is an ancient text. The Bible was written by forty men who only wrote when they were led by the holy ghost. There are many verses in the bible talking about men being the dominant figure. Two verses relating to the glass ceiling would be Ephesian 5:22-23.Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord (Ephesians 5:22). For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body” (Ephesians 5:23). the bible starts off by saying wives which draws the attention of all wives and then adds the men in to inform the man what they are suppose to do as while. by using diction it commands the readers to govern themselves according to the laws found in the…show more content…
many people back in the day use to follow the bible heavy till this day people still do. Theses two bible verses are straight to the point and the bible verses stay on topic. The bible shows logos by using words such as,”submit”,”head”,and “yourselves”(Ephesians 5:22-23). theses words convey the feeling to the readers that women had no choice in the matter whether they wanted to govern themselves according to the laws of the bible. the readers can also see that the laws that were set were the truth because the bible nickname is the truth. “Submit” makes the readers feel like even if a women wanted to have a job or even go to school whatever their husband said went no if ands or buts. Back in the Bible times, the wives were not seen as an important figure. They were basically ordered to be “slaves” to their husbands. Although men did provide for the family, the wife was to use those funds and provide food and care for the whole family. Some people believe in their opinion, that raising a family was a harder role than going out and actually doing labor.
