As young children, we were told that Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492 to find India. Instead he “found” America and became America’s first great hero. In Lies my Teacher Told Me: Chapter Two by James Loewen; it is proven that what we were taught as children, is an absolute lie. In all twelve textbooks that Loewen had surveyed, all of them stated that Columbus is a national hero and had made up details to tell a better story. There were many pre-Columbian explorers that have been overlooked. The rest of the chapter talks about the domination of the Europeans over the Native Americans and the arms race that Europeans contributed in.
