We are able to relate to many forms of literature whether it’s a poem or a nonfiction book that’s aimed for teenagers; we all can connect to some form no matter what it is.I related to the story, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian written by Sherman Alexie because it describes a teenage boy name Junior. He reminded me of myself due to the fact that he has suffered many tragedies in his life, yet he still overcomes them and throughout these struggles he has a love for school and learning. With that being said, this book truly hit home because it represents the underdogs in this world that have to live with certain situations: good or bad, but this book was created perfectly to illustrate Juniors situations. In particular, there is one area I would like to expand on. When Junior throws his text book at Mr.P, it was portrayed as if he really meant to inflict harm to his teacher, but in reality Junior through the book out of anger and wasn’t aiming at a certain target. He was fed up with the conditions that the school, reservation, even the conditions that he, himself had to live with. When that event occurred it was a shock to me because honestly I did not see that coming right away, but I believe why it occurred. When Junior learned how Mr.P felt and when he learned more about his sister, his eyes were finally opened that his sister deserved her dream and that he does deserve better and that Junior deserves his dream too. Surprisingly, Mr.P wasn’t furious of what had happened, but realized that he needed to encourage one of his brightest students to succeed and not wind up like everyone on the reservation.
