Thank You M Am Character Analysis

The character from the story Thank You M’am named Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones is an honorable character that shows how being once in poverty can affect your values, honor, and beliefs in a good way. The first time you see Mrs. Jones express her values is when a boy attempts to steal her bag. Since the purse was so heavy, he failed. And then Mrs. Jones takes the boy to her house to wash him up and teach him a lesson. Just this small part shows her values because she thought it wasn’t acceptable for him to steal but she didn’t turn him in because it was important to her for him to be washed up and taught right and wrongs. I think this shows values because the definition of values is “ strongly held beliefs about what is important or acceptable”, as you see, her one of her values is that stealing is wrong and you should know its wrong. Another example is a quote I found from the story “ I were young once and I wanted things I could not get. I have done things, too, which I would not tell you, son-neither tell god, if he didn’t already know.” This shows that she was once poor and maybe have done things she isn’t proud of, but, that has changed her…show more content…
This is shown in the short story when Mrs. Jones decided not to take the boy to jail. Because she kinda knew that he didn’t have anyone to take care of so she decided to take care of him that night and help him out cause she knows what it’s like cause she probably did the exact same thing when she was poor as a child. This shows honor because she decided to help him out and take care of him and even though he did something bad she saw he was good and that people make mistakes, and that to me is good character. In other words she didn’t have to help him but she did, and that is an honorable person because, if you look at the definition of honor it says “ good character as judged by other people” and that fits into what I am trying to
