Tennessee Williams relied on his own personal life and experiences as source material for his work. He uses different parts of his life in his characters to bring more life into them. This means his life is used over and over in his plays and dramas. On March 26, 1911, Thomas Lanier Williams was born in Columbus, Mississippi, the second of three children born to Cornelius and Edwina Williams. His childhood would be an unhappy and difficult one as his father, a shoe salesman, became more and more abusive to him and his siblings.
