The Beverly Hills Supper Club was an upscale and popular venue in Southgate, Kentucky. On Saturday, May 28, 1977 Memorial Day weekend a fire occurred where 165 people were killed, and over 200 were injured. The original layout of the building had been changed…show more content… As firefighters prepared to ventilate, they discovered flames were already through the center section of the roof. The Campbell County disaster plan was activated. At 12:05 a.m., the north wall of the Cabaret Room caved in and 30 minutes later the east wall fell outward. The fire was under control by 2 a.m. Firefighters searching the building`s remains the next day found 26 more bodies within the vicinity of the Cabaret Room. All victims were burned beyond recognition. Two more bodies were recovered from another area two days later. The last victim #162 died in a…show more content… The presence of concealed, combustible ceiling tile and wood materials provided a fuel supply for continued spread of the fire through the original ceiling. o The staff of Beverly Hills Supper Club attempted to extinguish the fire before notifying the occupants and before calling the fire department. No set evacuation plan establishing emergency procedures for the club, employees were not trained or drilled in duties that they were to perform in case of fire and exits were not properly marked. o The number of people in the Cabaret Room exceeded the number of recommended occupants by almost double what the room could safely accommodate according to the codes and standards in effect at that time. o The finish of the interior in the main north-south corridor exceeded the flame spread allowed for places of assembly in the Life Safety Code and contributed to the rapid spread of the fire from the Zebra Room to the Cabaret
