The Miseducation of Cameron Post and the LGBTQ+ Community
LGBTQ+ topics have always been controversial, especially in small towns and very religious areas. In The Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily Danforth the main character, Cameron, is struggling to come to terms with who she is, a girl who likes girls. Unfortunately, Cameron also lives in a small religious town where same-sex relationships are very much frowned upon. The book is also set in the late 80’s and early 90’s which was a time where society as a whole was struggling with a topic, and it was even more controversial than it is today. Actually, society has made quite a few steps in the right direction for LGBTQ+ rights and visibility.
