Article Summary This article discusses the positives of a new perk that employers are now offering employees which is paid parental leave and also provides explanations of why employers are rushing to provide this benefit to their workers. The article goes on to explain that there are many reasons why companies are offering this benefit only recently when this benefit would have been happily appreciated by working parents long ago which is; the benefit helps bring in and keep talented workers when nowadays talent is hard to come by. The article also talks about Millennials, which are workers born in a certain time period (1982-2000), and how they are going to make up a big chunk of the workforce in the next decade and that this benefit will come very handy in order for a company to attract and keep workers from this generation who will/are demanding it. The reason why this article is relevant to HRM is because the whole idea and point of this article; the implementation of paid parental leave, is a Human Resources department move. HR deals with the whole compensation package, benefits and costs for employees and the company and the creation of a rather new (not really new) benefit has everything to deal with HR. HRM also deals with the morale of the employees of the company, and if workers really wanted this benefit they are inevitably going to get it. Company heads and managers need to keep up with demands for job satisfaction (Wilkie, 2015, p. 1).
