We're introduced to the IRS agent named Harold, and he hears an ominous voice that narrates his life. This moment is the inciting incident of Stranger than Fiction.
The rising action begins when Harold meets Jules, the literary proffesor, and tells him that Harold must identify if his story is a comedy or tragedy. When Harold meets Ana, a baker he is supposed to audit, he falls in love with her; however, she kicks him out after Harold refuses her baked bribes. Harold's apartment is then destroyed by a demolition crew. Harold accepts his imminent death and tries to make the best out of it by taking a break from work, learning guitar, and dating Ana. Harold then finds out that the name of his narrator is Karen Eiffel, and all of her stories ends
