Summary Of My Favorite Chaperone

In the story “My Favorite Chaperone”, the author Jean Davies Okimoto does a great job of showing how an immigrant family can adjust to the ways of a different country. The first part of the story that Okimoto really shows a turning point is when Nurzhan gets in a fist fight at school, this is also when I was made aware the role Maya has to Nurzhan and how much she cares about him. I found that some of the Kazakhstan customs for boys and girls are the same as American’s, most fathers in America would have done the same thing that Papa when he caught Maya messing around with Daniel. Maya shows her true colors and strength when Mama hurts her ankle at work; Maya has to take Mama’s role/ has to do everything that Mama did before she hurt her ankle.
