How a Successful Athlete’s Identity is Formed Almost everyone knows of or has at least heard of a successful athlete in their lives. LeBron James, Hope Solo, and Usain Bolt are just a few of many successful athletes. What makes up these athletes identity? Is it just luck they are good at their sport? Being dedicated, having confidence, and the surroundings of an athlete is what makes up a successful athlete’s identity. Dedication is a huge part that makes up a successful athletes identity. If an athlete is not dedicated then they will not become successful in their sport. In order to be successful in a sport, athletes have to put the time and effort in. If the athlete is surrounding himself or herself with a positive environment then they are going to be successful. If the athlete is surrounding himself or herself with a negative environment then they are not going to be a successful athlete. People who do negative and illegal things are also very bad for a successful athlete’s identity because they will influence the athlete to do those negative an illegal activities. The negative people and environment around them will cause them to start doing bad things that will cause them not to be successful athletes and diminish the successful athlete identity. Some may argue, that some successful athletes are just naturals at the sport that they play and do not need to be dedicated to the sport. The people that argue this may think this is true, because the athlete does not seem to be trying very hard and does not seem like they put in a lot of time and hard work to practice what they are doing.
