I consider myself self-motivated, productive and persistent. Growing up in a gangster-driven environment where people are constantly disheartened can take a toll on you, but with great influences and a drive to stand out I’ve learnt to work around my predicament. My dad, at present, is the sole breadwinner in the family and tries his best to provide for the rest of us. That’s one of the main reasons I would call him my role model. Through his influence, not only was I roped into the world computers but his constant warnings and talks about fighting for a better life for our family and not making the same mistakes he had made before. What really stood out for me was the drive that Steve Jobs had to build up an empire from something small, even working out of a garage with Steve Wozniak. If either had decided to give up, at any point, there wouldn’t have been such great advancement in technology, there wouldn’t be a multi-million dollar company standing tall and changing the course of technology and influencing many lives. It shows that a seed can be planted, but it takes a strong person to water it and let it grow. This is why my dad influenced my life so greatly. He has gone through so much to get where he is today, worked his way up from small jobs just to set our futures straight. He teaches me not to make the same mistakes he did so that I can take things one step further and be an inspiration to my brother as he was to me. This taught me that change starts out small. If I, based on where I come from, can step out of my circumstances fully qualified and heading for a bright future, then I believe my story could influence others. Just as Steve Jobs’ story influenced many (myself included) and my dad’s story influenced me, so can many be affected by the outcome—even if it starts out with only one
