“Benedietus” or Bennet was a man blessed by grace. He was wise in his youth and was born in the province of Nursia. Bennet was taken to Rome to learn about humanity, but left the dissolute and lewd life to serve God. St. Benedietus displayed miracles and heroic virtues throughout. He performed miracles by breaking a wine glass into pieces and by making a fountain of water from praying. This servant of God also showed heroic virtue by keeping his vow of chastity. One of the miracles that Bennet performed was breaking a wine glass by the sign of the cross. The monks of the Abbey tried to kill Bennet, because they revoked people that had iniquitous conscience. They tried to eliminate Benedietus by giving him wine that had been poisoned.
