It is difficult to view the Grand Canyon in its entirety because the viewer has already created an image of the Grand Canyon for the viewer’s self through images and word of mouth (Percy 47). Just looking at it after already formulating a notion about it is just reaffirms our preconceived notion (Percy 47). We must not gaze upon the Grand Canyon under restricted conditions, but as its original discoverer, however, our minds have already been condition to images of the Grand Canyon (Percy 47). Due to these images, our minds shift gears and as opposed to the Spaniard’s first ever glimpse of it, in which he took in all of its minute details, the people with preconceived notions just compare their trip’s grand view with their original perception
