Social media is ruining face to face interaction. Social media is a social network that allows millions of people to interact online. Social media first started in 1997 and named Six Degrees, from Six Degrees the internet moved into an era of instant messaging (The History of Social Media: Social Networking Evolution!" History Cooperative. N.p., 26 Feb. 2017). Social media is changing the way people interact from talking once a month to talking all the time. Social media is bringing us closer to people farther away but farther from the person right next to you. Social media is affecting the way we communicate. Social media interferes with face to face interaction, the increase of people getting used to texting rather than going out and interacting with people is astonishing. For example, when going out for dinner most people are on their phones waiting for their food than actually talking. Social media allows us to communicate more online, but with texting all the time and not actually interacting you do not build strong relationships with people than you would while face to face interacting,…show more content…
Social media has made people have a tendency to want to interact with people online rather than in person owing to the fact that; it has made the process simpler. Social media allows adults, young adults and even kids use social media to keep on track rather than keeping up in person. This being more of the issue many individuals will not want to go out and have fun. For instance, when an individual gives a child a phone for them to play games or watch videos they are influencing them that they don’t have to go out and play. They suggests that the decrease in the time on any social networking such as; Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube will eventually have “significant consequences for their development of social skills and their presentation of self”(Current Cyber-youth.
