Shawshank Redemption directed by Frank Darabont is a drama film about Andy Dufresne, a banker who is convicted of murdering his own wife and her secret lover. Andy is then sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison when in fact, he is innocent. The theme of friendship and injustice is exposed throughout this film
The theme of injustice is shown throughout this quote in the film “If he had cried on the witness stand, or if his voice had thickened and grown hesitant, even if he had gotten yelling at the Washington bound District Attorney, I don’t believe he would have gotten the life sentence he wound up with.” This quotes shows the jury is reacting to Andy’s personality rather than the facts of the case. Maybe if Andy’s attitude were different and if he’d declared his own innocence the judge may have contemplated the decision about the life sentence. “In all my years at Shawshank, there have been less than ten men whom I believed when they told me they were innocent. Andy Dufresne was one of them.” Said King, one of Dufresne’s inmates. This shows Andy is a good man and wouldn’t kill anyone.
