Steven Liu Junior Project Precis The Arrival, a wordless novel, was written by Shaun Tan and then published by Hodder's Children's books in 2006. The book is divided into six chapters, comprising of small, medium, and large panels and featuring pages of full artwork. The Arrival tells an immigrant's story. The protagonist, a young father with vaguely Eurasian features, leaves his home to create a better life for his family in a distant land of opportunity. His homeland is depicted to be haunted, giving the sense that he is trying to help his family escape from a malevolent force. He struggles to find a job, a place to stay in this new land. On the title page, there are many rows of passport-liked images. It can be distinguished that they existed in different eras from their wearing appearances. Although the story is mixed with numerous fantasy elements, the story is formatted with three different sets of men and women. Shaun Tan was born in Australia in 1974. His father was a Malaysian Chinese who immigrated to Australia in the 1960s while his mother was an Australian. Tan grew up in a north suburb of Western Australia called Perth. Being addressed as a panting master by classmates in high school, he therefore remedied the defect of being the shortest guy in the class. In his teenage, Tan already began to draw illustrations for scientific fictions and illustrations for horror stories in small-volume magazines.
