Artistic visionary Sergei Diaghilev from Perm, Russia who was mainly known for being the founder of Ballets Russes, which extremely shaped the world of performance and dance. Diaghilev invested in development of Nijinsky’s talent and made him one of the most respected dancers of all time and in 1909 Sergei Diaghilev made Nijinsky the premier dancer with Ballet Russes. As he was someone who was very familiar through experience and had a huge interest during his upbringing, eventually went on to study law at the University of St. Petersburg and eventually graduated in the mid 1890’s, but instead decided to follow his passion and purse music. In 1899 Diaghilev became a special assistant to Prince Sergei Mikhaylovich Volkonsky, who had recently taken over directorship of all the imperial theatres and Diaghilev was soon responsible for the production of the Annual of imperial Theatres in 1900 and immediately gave assignments to his close friends. As it caused a near riot in the audience, 101 years later and it’s still being questioned to whether or not that actually happened. My personal opinion on why he changed ballet for The Rite of Spring is so people would be talking about it years after it actually happened. I strongly think that when he changed things like turnout to turn in, he changed soft jumps to really strong and heavy jumps and so on and so on.
