Books are the record of all the things that humanity has accomplished. they're one of the greatest forms of expression. These feelings are not always reciprocated. On May 10, 1933 German students gathered around to burn books with ideas that were considered "un-German". The fire was thought to purify these ideas. In response to this event William Lyon Phelps wrote the speech "The Pleasure Of Books". He wanted to show the beauty of books that not everyone takes the time to notice. Phelps uses rhetoric to, not only provide greater credibility to his speech but, to become more appealing to the audience by giving them a better understanding of what he's trying to stay. Phelps uses ethos to emphasize how reading is an important part of life
