In the discussion of the essay, “Toward a Universal Ethics”, by Michael Gazzaniga, the concern of whether people today have a universal moral code; and where it comes from, has been in question, as it rightfully should be. With all of the terrorists attacks and random acts of of violence in the world today, its hard to imagine we all share some type of a universal moral code. On one hand, people like Gazzaniga say that an universal ethic code does not exist in the sense that they are black and white decisions; rather they are situationally. On the other hand, however, others can argue that if humans shared a universal ethics code people wouldn’t commit heinous crimes against one another. In the words of Michael Gazzaniga, one of the leading supporters on why people share a universal code, “I believe, therefore, that we should look not for a universal ethics comprising hard-and-fast truths, but for the universal ethics that arises from being human…” (Gazzaniga 430). According to this view, We shouldn’t think of universal ethics as absolute truths, rather think of them as contextual and very from different situations. In sum, the issue is whether humans share a universal ethics code, and if they do where does it comes from. My own view is that I believe that people can share a universal ethics code…show more content… Although, I believe that most people do act this way, that they try and make the best decisions. Being genuinely good and helping people is in our nature. Human nature will always overcome evil or baldness in a person. I don't believe people can be truly evil, I think that they are made that way. They are conditioned from an early age to think or act a certain way that goes against what they believe is good. They turn bad or evil against their own will. Thats why nurture plays such a big part in determining if people can share the same ethics code because not everyone is given a fair shot at a normal
