As a caseworker, there is a responsibility to bring certain values, principles, knowledge, and skill to the casework to make sure that contentions are managed and the clients are empowered and can regain some sense of social functioning. Also, the case worker has to ensure that the client’s needs are met and the relationship is managed suitably and adequately. In this case my clients are considered to be mentally disabled, in their twenties and live at a group home, they are both anxious to get married but the administrator of the home is against their wishes to marry because she believes they may produce a child they can’t care for. However, the client's right to client self-determination is limited by the capacity of their decision-making, by civil and moral law. In this case the clients are mentally disabled this can be a major problem because if the clients are incapable in helping themselves or making decisions of their own their right will be limited. In the role of broker the caseworker is responsible for locating and linking the clients systems to needed resources in a timely fashion. Additionally, the broker is concerned with the quantity, quality and the accessibility of accommodations. By recommending another group home that would accept the client’s wish to get married or even having a baby while living at the home is acting the role of a broker. The advocate seeks to ensure that people, particularly those who are most vulnerable in society, are able to have their voice heard on issues that are important to them, defend and guard their rights. Have their views and wishes genuinely considered when decisions are being made about their lives. These roles help the caseworker to speak on the behalf of the clients to ensure that their rights and needs to get married like people who are not mentally disabled. When dispute resolution is required so as to accomplish certain goals, the skilled caseworker can perform the role of mediator. Within the mediator role, the caseworker intervenes in disputes between parties to assist them realize compromises, reconciliation and reach mutually reasonable agreements.
