Reading Response The short story African Morning by Langston Hughes is about a child who is bullied, and looked down upon because he is half English and half African. Langston Hughes uses conflict to show the cruelty of the African and English people , and uses gold as a symbol for the racism of the English and African People The conflict in Langston Hughes’ “African Morning” is very clear, and appears quite often. For example, on the second page when Maurai is wondering why all others hate him. This shows conflict because he knows he is hated because he is different, and can't do anything about it.
