Monsanto is a multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation who is the largest producer of genetically engineered seeds on the planet. Over 90% of genetically engineered seeds that are planted around the world are produced by Monsanto. The Monsanto Protection Act, the documentary Food Inc., and many court cases pointing against Monsanto are just a few of its negative appearances in society. So how does Monsanto stay on top? Kenner found that Clarence Thomas, who was a Monsanto attorney from 1976-1979 became a Supreme Court Justice from 1991 to the present. Thomas ended up writing the majority opinion in a cased that allowed companies like Monsanto to keep farmers from cleaning their previous planted seeds, or saving their own seeds.
