Because President Truman was moved by the tragedies of the Jews, he wanted to help them out by supporting the establishment of a Jewish state to be built in Palestine. He was supported by many voters, friends, staff, Zionist, ect. However, many people were also against his decision, like the State Department and foreign policy experts. There was a good and a bad side to both choices. Supporting the Jews is the right thing to do, but the Arabs would be very upset. If he supported the Arabs then the Jews would just keep pestering him. The good side for supporting the Jews is that the Jews would greatly appreciate it.
