As employees of the federal government, we have a level of accountability that is achieved by liability or lack of. Consequently, our position is not to question who be chosen to receive the placebo and what person will be selected the experimental drug. However, it is our duty to perform our jobs as assigned in order for us not become a liability to this organization. Therefore, Lucy understands how the odds are stacked in her favor for both the experimental medicine or the inactive drug. By allowing her to participate in the control grouped, we are providing her hope that she will be cured. Research has shown that when a person believes that they were given the real test substance, reports indicated that actually start to feel better.
