At that time it can be hard for some people everywhere in the whole world to understand the fact is Deaf people want to promote their own sports movement because it stands in contrast to the majority’s policy of integration. “The Deaflympics (previously called World Games for the Deaf, and International Games for the Deaf) are an International Olympic Committee (IOC)-sanctioned event at which deaf athletes compete at an elite level.”
The Deaflympics are the longest running multi-sport event excluding the Olympics themselves and also the first ever international sporting event for athletes with a disability. “The International Games for the Deaf was created by Eugène Rubens-Alcais, he was “deaf and President of the French Deaf Sports…show more content… Surely there might be a debate about where the athletes should be fit in the realm of the sports.
Many sporting events have technical issues with deaf athletes that may limit their performance. Nearly every sport has audible cues and signals to manage the game or event.
It is pretty awesome that we have the Deaflympics that only deaf athletes can completes at there. But it might be nice if the deaf athletes can attend in other competitions like for one Commonwealth Game where that the deaf athletes had their own medal events as same go for the hearing athletes too.
The Deaf sports alone don’t alone give the Deaf people increased empowerment, but an identity, group belonging and a shared community and experience of language are important for empowerment. As Mr Lars Havstad, the first Deaf student in 19th century Norway to go to university, said: “Deaf people are getting together not to isolate themselves, but to gather power and information for life in a society where sounds and spoken language are prevalent.” So what I am trying to say that the Deaf sports and ordinaries are so important to the Deaf
